Children’s Literature and the Importance of Reading for Pleasure This course will be based on reading and findings with regards to best practice for sharing children’s books in the classroom. There is increasing evidence to show that teacher subject knowledge about children’s books is key to the raising of standards, and so the session looks to promote an ethos of support and sharing of great children’s literature throughout the school whilst also supporting teachers with the skills to ask rich, engaging questions and foster positive booktalk in their schools. Strategies to develop Metacognition and Oracy in the classroom (TS4 & 5). These short targeted CPD sessions aim to provide you as an NQT or NQT + 1 with the opportunity to gain a range of  ideas, resources and strategies that will build your confidence and develop your skills to teach with flair and creativity. You can attend all 4 sessions or only the sessions that you feel would be most useful for you. Whilst each session costs £12 – the cost is £40 if all four sessions are booked. Downland Alliance alumni – special rate of £10 per session or £35 for all four sessions.

KS1 & KS2 Computing An overview of planning and activities that will enable teachers to consider how they will meet the computing curriculum in KS1. These approaches will include discussion of how non-digital or ‘unplugged’ methods will allow children to develop computational thinking. West Berkshire Schools can book through the SLA portal.
