Coronavirus – update for Teacher Training Applications September 2020

Applying to our School Direct courses during COVID-19 and school closures

The Downland Alliance is following all government guidelines and from Public Health England during these difficult and challenging times.

You can still apply to our courses (except salaried), but we will be carrying out interviews through a remote process instead of the normal face to face interview and selection sessions.

The online interview process will include:

  • a written task
  • an interview with presentation
  • for creative subjects only, a subject portfolio

An information pack will be sent out by email to support you through this process.

Why have salaried courses for the Downland Alliance closed?

Our salaried courses are closed as our partner schools cannot interview during this time.

Important Notice from UCAS regarding guidelines for default dates if you have already applied / are applying to us:

If you have already applied to us, there are changes to decline by default (DBD) and reject by default (RBD) dates.

UCAS have taken the decision to put the rolling UCAS Teacher Training and DfE Apply for Teacher Training decision-making deadlines on hold for four weeks. From 20th March, all RBDs and DBDs will be paused until 20th April at the earliest – this means that during this time, no offers will be automatically declined, or applications automatically rejected by us.

Below are details of what this means for you, based on where you are in the application cycle.

If your RBD/DBD date is between 23rd March and 19th April

  • We have until 20th April to make decisions about your application.
  • You will have until 20th April to reply to offers you’ve received, if your DBD date is within this period.
  • Track will show the extended dates for you, but this may take a little while to update. You should have been told about this by email from UCAS.

If your RBD date is after 19th April

  • We have an extra four weeks to make decisions about your application.
  • Track will show the extended dates for you, but this may take a little while to update. You should have been told about this by email from UCAS.
  • If you have applied through the new DfE Apply service, you should have been emailed about the changes.

If you apply between 23rd March and 19th April

  • We will have until 15th June to make a decision about your application.
  • Track will show the extended dates for you

UCAS will keep us updated if they decide to extend these dates further.
